Speaker: Kevin Bryant of the Frederick Douglass National Historic Site

Topic: Frederick Douglass: Master of Language

Frederick Douglass developed himself into a master of the English language.  His words, recorded in ink, roared off the page into the ears of audiences around the world.  As he battled for a just world - and certainly a better America - he found influence everywhere.  This self-taught warrior drew inspiration from across time and cultures.  Among those shaping the words of one of America's finest orators was John Greenleaf Whittier.  What do we know about their relationship?  Join us to explore the connections, crossovers and cooperation between these two titans.
