Guided tours of the c.1688 Whittier homestead are offered from May through October.

The approximately 1 hour tour explores the Whittier family’s lives here on the farm and the early life of the abolitionist and poet John Greenleaf Whittier. Visitors are also encouraged to explore the self-guided Freeman Memorial Trail through the woods and fields of the Whittier Birthplace.

Accessibility: there are 2 steps up into the 17th century house and the path from the street to the house is stepping stones on grass. Sturdy shoes are recommended.

The tour fees are listed below. Exact change is most welcome. If you’d like to pay by credit card, please click here and make note of how many people are in your group.

  • Adults: $5

  • Seniors and students: $3

  • Children under age 12: free
